Today all the yr 7 & 8 girls had a self defence class for when strangers approach. We learnt how to react when approached and how we can defend ourselves, verbally and physically. Our teachers name was Linda an she was a great teacher. We all definitely learnt a lot and by the end of the day I felt a lot more confident.

Refugee facts

At school during inquiry, we have been looking at the topic 'refugees'. Here I have some fact on how refugees live etc.

  • 13.5 million people in Syria need humanitarian assistance due to a violent civil war. ...
  • 4.8 million Syrians are refugees, and 6.5 million are displaced within Syria; half of those affected are children.
  • Most Syrian refugees remain in the Middle East, in Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, and Egypt; slightly more than 10% of the refugees have fled to europe.
  • Children are susceptible to malnutrition and diseases brought on by poor sanitation, including diarrheal diseases like cholera. Cold weather increases the risk of pneumonia and other respiratory infections.
  • Many refugee children have to work to support their families. Often they labor in dangerous or demeaning circumstances for little pay.
